Meet our dedicated Newcastle speechie, Abbi. It was only by chance that Abbi chose Speech Pathology as a career path. While she was travelling, she met a Sydney lady who was a speechie – at this stage Abbi didn’t even know what they were! Abbi was fascinated when the lady explained what they did. When she returned home from travelling, Abbi put in her 2 weeks’ notice for her office job, enrolled at university and started her degree within 2 months. Since then, Abbi has also completed her Read3 training.
Abbi is passionate about language and literacy, early intervention, and working with rural and remote communities, including a focus on Aboriginal health and cognitive development. She has worked rurally, been a youth and disability support worker, and was previously an Allied Health Assistant at Pop.
Off-duty, Abbi loves a good Mexican dish and embraces an active lifestyle through exercising, socialising with friends, and exploring on new adventures.
Things Abbi loves:
🐾 Her fur baby (and chocolate Labrador) Milo
🚢 Watching Below Deck
🎒 Travelling, backpacking and adventuring (especially in Peru!)
