Cherie grew up in country Victoria and always knew she wanted to work in a job which involved helping people to reach their full potential. She was planning to become a school teacher, but as a left-hander who always smudged the writing on the chalkboard/whiteboard she decided to explore speech pathology instead! Cherie stayed in the country for university and studied Speech Pathology at Charles Sturt University in Albury.
Cherie has worked in public health for the last 17 years in regional Victoria and has been lucky to experience working across the full spectrum of speech pathology with adults and children in many different settings.
As a country girl Cherie has a passion for overcoming barriers to access for regional and remote clients. One of Cherieโs favourite memories of being a speech pathologist is regular trips in a small plane to the remote town of Mallacoota to provide Speech Pathology services to the community health centre, school and kindergarten. The one part she didnโt enjoy was the travel sickness in the plane and therefore not being able to eat all day!ย
Working at Pop means that Cherie no longer has to battle travel sickness to provide services to clients all over Australia!ย ย
Cherie held a team leader role for the last 11 years and loves to help students and junior staff grow and develop their skills, knowledge and passion for speech pathology.ย
In her spare time Cherie loves to spend time with her husband and two boys in the outdoors at the beach or bushwalking. She also enjoys travelling to new places and is known to be always planning her next holiday.ย
