HOW WE USE PLAY TO ACHIEVE SPEECH THERAPY GOALS 💻

As you can see in this video, we LOOOVE using play with our younger clients to achieve speech therapy goals!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At first glance, it might look like Speechies are ‘just playing’, but there’s a lot of strategy behind these games 😉
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Playing is a child’s primary occupation!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By learning through play, kids are able to develop skills in communication, social interactions, gross and fine motor skills and more!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Without learning these foundational skills through play, children may have difficulty learning higher-level skills later on (like communicating verbally).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not only is play-based therapy a strategy we use in the Speechie world, it’s also super easy to implement at home!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can try:
🌟 “People” games such as tickles, chase, horsie rides, “ring around the rosie” or hide and seek.
🌟 Copying/imitating actions with objects, whole body movements, facial expressions, or gestures (eg. shaking a toy, clapping hands, poking out your tongue, waving).
🌟 Games played on the hands and feet such as “this little piggy”, “pat-a-cake” or “round and round the garden”.
🌟 Making a game or song while jumping on the bed or a trampoline.
