Whilst studying Early Childhood Education, Emily discovered her passion for supporting children to express themselves and connect with their world. This inspired her to change paths and pursue a career in Speech Pathology.
Emily enjoys supporting children across various communication areas, though her true passion is in Orofacial Myology (OM). OM focuses on promoting proper muscle function in the face, jaw and mouth, which is important for speech, eating and drinking skills, facial growth and development, breathing and overall health.
Emily strives to help families feel understood and well-supported in fostering their child’s health and communication, through creating a fun and supportive therapeutic environment and connecting families with the right professionals for quality, collaborative and holistic health management.
Emily provides education and formal clinical supervision to the team to help build their confidence and skills in supporting their families within the OM space. She has undergone the following trainings in Orofacial Myology:
• Australian Academy of Orofacial Myology – 4-Day Introduction Course
• Australian Academy of Orofacial Myology – Practical Advanced Skills in Orofacial Myology
• Centre for Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy – Breathe, Feed, Eat and Sleep Workshop
• The Tongue Tie Institute – Foundational Course
• The Tongue Tie Institute – Advanced Course: Children & Adults
• Neohealth – Orofacial Myology: From Basics to Habituation
• Neothealth – ‘Qualified Orofacial Myologist’ (QOM) – Certification process currently underway
Having been through her own OM journey, Emily is especially well-equipped to support families and clinicians to navigate and understand this space.
